OUR STORY

Metal Manipulation was first established in 2015 when we created a small industrial style table lamp for a friend that wanted something totally unique. Our first lamp was fabricated using large steel nuts for the base, mild steel chain for the frame structure, incorporating a Edison style filament bulb to complete the look of industrial style. Our signature chain work is what makes us different and stand out. The industrial look of the chain, softened with the stylish filament bulb really does create a warm atmospheric light.  It was after overwhelming positive feedback we realised we may have touched upon something that was on trend , stylish and appeared to be very popular..

In 2016 we opened our first showroom in Tutbury Staffordshire where the general public could view our small range of industrial style chain lamps and place orders. Soon after this we were approached by many other outlets across the midlands to supply them with our handcrafted pieces, within months we had a regular demand for orders across the midlands.

As Metal Manipulation was rapidly growing Leigh the founder of the business decided it was time to give it his full attention and give up his day job as a on site Forman for a large engineering firm. As a qualified fabricator/welder and blacksmith meant he could use his skills and knowledge to create beautiful bespoke handcrafted products that simply cannot be bought off the shelf. In the first year Metal Manipulation started to spread their wings further a field in the way of craft events, again proving to be popular allowing the business to grow. To date we now on average attend 20 well organised events/art exhibitions a year, allowing us to showcase our handmade products to a wider audience across the country to people that are specifically seeking quality handcrafted pieces of art.

In 2018 we were lucky enough to move our business to a new location, based in the courtyard at the Ferrers centre for arts and crafts, nestled in the magnificent grounds of Staunton Harold Hall, Leicestershire. Here you will find our workshop, showroom and shop that is open

to the public Thursday- Sunday

In the first couple of years here business rocketed  which led to Becky (Leigh's partner now wife) to leave her full time job in education to come on board and work solely for Metal Manipulation.

At Metal manipulation we strive to be different and always one step ahead of the game. We take great pride in each and every single handcrafted piece we make, ensuring only the best quality parts are used, paying particular attention to detail.

WE ARE LOCATED ON THE STAUNTON HAROLD ESTATE

The Staunton Harold Estate is a traditional country estate of some 2000 acres, centred on the great Georgian mansion, Staunton Harold Hall.  Family run, and ‘hands on’ in its management style, the estate has embraced modern uses for its diverse assets.
The family’s involvement with Staunton Harold began in 1955, when they purchased the three farms at the core of the estate.  These included the large Georgian stable block, which stood abandoned and ruinous. The family put it in good repair, and in 1974 began its conversion to craft workshops and studios.  Now known as the FERRERS CENTRE FOR ARTS AND CRAFTS this is a true ‘making’ centre and this is where Metal Manipulation is now based.
